AMONT · TEMPORARY RETAIL CONTROL GUIDE

Paris pop-up store legal and administrative checklist

A short rental does not suspend normal commercial, consumer, safety or property rules. The correct checklist depends on the company, products, venue, public access, proposed works and use of the street. Confirm each responsibility before announcing the opening—not after stock and suppliers are committed.

Four files must agree

A contradiction between them is a pre-opening risk.

The venue owner cannot validate the brand's tax or consumer setup; the brand cannot redefine the property's approved conditions.

Do not assume a familiar retail concept travels unchanged into every Paris property.

Unusual premises

Sale in a place not normally used for retail

A temporary sale in premises not normally intended for public sales may fall within the rules for a vente au déballage. Establish the property's normal use and obtain advice before launch.

Check · activity + premises
Public realm

Anything placed outside the leased interior

An A-board, queue barrier, display, vehicle, sampling team or furniture on the pavement can engage separate public-domain rules. Interior approval is not permission to occupy the street.

Check · boundary + AOT
Physical change

Works that alter the venue or façade

Drilling, painting, partitions, electrical extensions, window treatment and external signage require precise owner approval; some changes can require administrative review.

Check · method + authorisation

The opening date should not depend on a last-minute email to an insurer, owner or authority. Put every required decision into the critical path, with a named owner and a latest safe approval date.

Use the list as a control register; mark each line with evidence and an accountable person.

Confirm the selling entity, French tax/accounting route, payment processor and invoice or receipt process.
Put the exact public retail activity, occupation dates, hours and approved areas in the venue agreement.
Obtain and review current ERP, capacity, accessibility and fire-safety information relevant to the project.
Check whether any temporary works, electrical changes, structures or façade interventions require approval.
Prepare price display, promotion language, consumer information, sales terms, returns and warranty process.
Determine whether vente au déballage rules or another activity-specific regime may apply.
Obtain written approval for window vinyl, signs and fixing methods; check Paris rules for exterior changes.
Keep the pavement clear unless a valid public-domain authorisation covers the proposed occupation.
Align insurance with the exact entity, address, dates, public activity, suppliers, stock and equipment.
Plan removal, waste, cleaning, reinstatement, final photographs, inspection and key return.

REVERIFY EVERY LINK AND REQUIREMENT BEFORE PUBLICATION AND BEFORE EACH CLIENT PROJECT. A SIGNED VENUE AGREEMENT DOES NOT REPLACE THE BRAND'S COMMERCIAL OR REGULATORY OBLIGATIONS.
