AMONT · SHOWROOM LAYOUT DECISION GUIDE

Single-floor vs duplex showroom

A duplex is not automatically more impressive, and a single floor is not automatically more efficient. The decision depends on whether the second level creates useful separation or simply adds stairs, duplicated staffing and invisible product. Allocate every function before valuing the total square metres.

Four questions decide the layout

Answer with the real collection and schedule inside the space.

01 · Product
How much must stay visible?
02 · Buyer
What should feel continuous?
03 · Team
Who covers each level?
04 · Support
What stays backstage?

Choose the plan by operating consequence.

The better option is the one that reduces friction for the dominant use.

DecisionSingle-floor advantageDuplex advantageFailure test
Buyer journeyOne visible collection path, fewer wayfinding breaks and easier oversightA deliberate second chapter can separate categories, brands or private appointmentsWill every buyer willingly reach and understand the second level?
Brand zoningFlexible adjacency without vertical barriersStrong physical separation for multiple brands, press, VIP or hospitalityDoes separation improve the story or hide product?
StaffingOne reception and easier shared coverageDifferent teams can run independent programmesWho opens, supervises and resets the second floor all day?
Back-of-houseSupport may compete with display on the same plateA lower or upper zone may protect stock, cases and staff workIs that level approved and practical for the assigned support function?
AccessibilityPotentially simpler when entrance and main programme are step-freeCan work well with a suitable lift and clear routesCan all required guests and staff reach the programme?
EventsOne crowd and production route is easier to readGuest and private functions may be separatedDo stairs, exits, capacity and sound permit the intended split?
CostLess duplication of reception, lighting, signs and supervisionMore usable functions under one address when genuinely connectedWhat extra labour, signage and equipment does vertical operation add?

A duplex needs an explicit operating model.

“Use upstairs for meetings” is not a plan.

Public below

Display below, appointments above

Useful when the entrance level creates energy and the upper floor provides calm. Protect invitation control, accessibility, buyer wayfinding and the movement of samples between levels.

Prove · product transfer route
Showroom above

Reception below, collection above

Useful when the threshold is compact and the main floor above is strong. The arrival must immediately reassure guests that they are in the right place and show where to go.

Prove · arrival script
Support below

Collection above, operations below

Useful when a basement genuinely accepts stock, staff, packaging or catering. Verify stairs, ventilation, connectivity, moisture, safety and approved use rather than calling any cellar back-of-house.

Give each level one primary job.

A productive duplex has hierarchy. Guests understand where the main experience happens, staff know what belongs on each level, and support movement does not repeatedly cross the buyer route.

01 · Lead
Name the main floorPlace the strongest commercial presentation where arrival and visibility support it.
02 · Assign
Give the second level a reasonUse it for a distinct category, appointments, hospitality or real support—not overflow.
03 · Connect
Design the stair transitionProvide sightline, signage, lighting and staff cues so the vertical journey feels intentional.
04 · Operate
Budget duplicate needsCount hosts, Wi-Fi, power, lighting, refreshments, cleaning and security by level.

Single-floor versus duplex inspection checklist.

Run the same finished showroom programme through both options.

Draw the full collection, rails, tables, seating, fitting, reception and back-of-house at scale.
Mark the main buyer journey and every point where staff or stock crosses it.
Assign one primary function and one accountable team to each level.
Check stair width, lift, accessibility, exits, capacity and permitted use for the actual programme.
Test mobile signal, Wi-Fi, power, lighting, heating and cooling on every occupied level.
Count duplicated reception, signage, security, cleaning, hospitality and technical needs.
Walk a late buyer through the venue without verbal guidance and note every uncertainty.
Compare productive area and total operating cost, not total advertised surface.

AMONT FIELD POSITION · A COHERENT SMALLER FLOOR CAN OUTPERFORM A LARGER DUPLEX. A GOOD DUPLEX, HOWEVER, CAN SEPARATE PROGRAMMES THAT WOULD OTHERWISE COLLIDE.
